Cove's Edge Cottage is a charming, traditional Maine shingle style cottage located on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Somesville, in the heart of Mount Desert Island. The cottage is situated on the waters edge of Dennings Cove on Somes Sound, a natural fjord, with beautiful views of the Sound and the mountains of Acadia National Park beyond. Cove’s Edge, extensively renovated in the winter/spring of 2003, is a new vacation rental property that became available in the summer of 2003.

The grounds include 350 feet of shore frontage on a tidal cove along with 1.2 acres that offer quiet seclusion and natural beauty with a mix of towering pines, spruce and oak trees and an open lawn with water views. The grounds also include a private float for swimming or launching kayaks and canoes and a delightful one-room guest cottage for the benefit of guests.

The cottage and the guest cottage, both with hardwood floors and knotty pine walls and ceilings, have the quaintness and charm of a traditional Maine cottage but with all the benefits of a modern, well appointed home. The cottage has three bedrooms and 1 ½ baths and sleeps six while the guest cottage sleeps two and has a ¾ bath. The first floor of the cottage includes a recently updated, fully appointed kitchen with all new appliances. A comfortable living room provides a relaxing refuge for reading, watching TV, enjoying a fire in the fireplace or taking in views of the water and mountains. The living room leads out to a large wraparound screened porch (also accessible from the kitchen) with gorgeous views of the Sound. Have your morning coffee or afternoon drink on the porch gazing across the Sound and the mountains of Acadia and taking in the wildlife. The first floor also includes an updated full bath and a bedroom with full-size bed. The second floor includes two bedrooms with full-size beds and an updated ½ bath. Both second floor bedrooms have wonderful views overlooking the Sound. The guest cottage, which also enjoys views of the water and mountains provide many of the comforts of home including a queen size bed, updated ¾ bath, satellite TV, mini-refrigerator, coffee maker and small deck. The guest cottage is just a few steps from the cottage but affords ample privacy for family guests, parents, in-laws, etc.

Guests at Cove's Edge have the best of both worlds: the opportunity to just kick back and relax and enjoy the comfort, beauty and solitude of the property while also being centrally located just minutes from all destinations and activities on the Island. The cottage is just a short stroll from the heart of Somesville, the oldest settlement on Mount Desert Island and one of the most photographed villages in Maine. Guests can enjoy swimming onsite from the property's private float, as well as launch kayaks or canoes from the property and explore the Sound and the waters and islands surrounding Mount Desert Island. Boaters with larger crafts can use the Somesville town dock, located less than a mile away. Guests are close by the major villages of Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor and the splendor of Acadia National Park. Acadia, with 30,000 acres including 22 mountains, 120 miles of hiking trails and 57 miles of carriage trails for biking or hiking is world renowned for its spectacular beauty. Opportunities for whale watching, boat rentals and charters, nature cruises, sailing, deep sea fishing, rock climbing, bird watching, swimming, golf, tennis, fall foliage viewing, concert going, shopping and dining and other activities are all within minutes. Include recently updated fully equipped kitchen with all new appliances, fireplace, satellite television in both the cottage and guest cottage, VCRs, washer/dryer, linens, towels, cleaning services prior to guest arrival, heat, telephone, wraparound screened porch on the cottage, deck on the guest cottage, gas grill, outdoor furniture, onsite swimming from a private float and water access on the property along with rights to use the Somesville town dock.

Up to 8 guests including the guest cottage. Rentals are from 4:00 PM Saturdays to 10:00 AM Saturdays. 50% of the rental amount is due at the time of booking and the balance 30 days prior to scheduled arrival. A $500 security deposit is also required at the time of booking. No pets and no smoking inside the cottage and guest cottage. Use of the guest cottage is included in the rental rates below. Rates below do not include required 7% state lodging tax.
